The original from 1942

A swedish classic

Lilla Åland is more than a chair. Since Carl Malmsten designed it in 1942, it has become a natural part of Swedish homes and one of our most beloved pieces of furniture.

The design grew out of Malmsten’s fascination with the traditional spindle-back chair – simple, functional and made to be used every day. With its soft lines, turned spindles and carefully crafted details, Lilla Åland became his own interpretation of a classic.

To this day, Lilla Åland is made at our factory in Smålandsstenar, with the same respect for material and craftsmanship that has always defined Stolab. Every component is crafted with great precision, allowing the solid wood to take centre stage – a living, natural material that ages beautifully and becomes part of the life around it.

A chair made for everyday life, but designed for generations. Around dining tables, in kitchens and in homes where life is meant to be lived.

The Craftsmanship

Solid wood. Made for generations.

Lilla Åland is made from solid wood – a natural, living material designed to last and grow more beautiful with time. The natural variations in the wood make every chair unique, giving it a character that continues to evolve over the years.

To us, quality means creating furniture that can remain part of everyday life for a long time. That is why Lilla Åland comes with a 20-year guarantee – a reflection of our confidence in the material, the craftsmanship and the construction.

A chair to use every day, year after year – and perhaps one day pass on to the next generation.

Hard, dense and strong

Oak

Oak is a hard and strong wood with a distinctive, pronounced grain. It is one of the most classic furniture woods in Europe and is frequently used in our furniture. Its high density and strength make it particularly durable and resistant to wear.

In a typical year, around 50% of the oak we use comes from Sweden. The trees grow for approximately 100–120 years before being felled and transformed into furniture.
