How to oil your furniture

General about oiled furniture

Oiling your furniture is an important and rewarding maintenance measure that can bring life and beauty to your wooden furniture. Over time, wood surfaces can lose their shine and feel due to daily wear and tear and exposure to humidity. By oiling your furniture, you not only restore its natural luster, but also protect the wood from cracking, fading and drying out.

Maintenance and care

1. Wipe the furniture regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt.

2. Avoid placing the furniture in direct sunlight or near sources of moisture, such as windows or air conditioners. Also avoid leaving water or other liquids on the furniture for a long time as this can cause stains and damage to the surface.

3. Oil the furniture regularly with an oil specially designed for wood. The oil protects the wood from stains and scratches and preserves its natural beauty. Follow the manufacturer's instructions when applying the oil.

4. Do not place hot objects directly on the furniture as this can cause damage to the surface.

5. If the furniture has suffered scratches or other surface damage, it may be possible to repair them using a filler pen or wood putty, or to re-sand the board before applying a new coat of oil.

6. Avoid using strong cleaners or chemicals on the furniture as this can cause damage and stains on the surface.

7. If you spill something on the furniture, wipe it off as soon as possible with a soft damp cloth. Avoid using too much water when wiping the furniture.

Oiling your furniture

1. Clean the surface: Before you start oiling the furniture, make sure the surface is clean and dry. Wipe away dirt and dust with a soft cloth.

2. Apply the oil: Generally, the oil is applied with a cloth or brush, and you should work in small sections to avoid missing any areas.

3. Let the oil dry: Once you have applied the oil to the furniture, let it dry. This may take a few hours or even a few days depending on the type of oil and the amount used.

4. Wipe off any excess oil: Once the oil has dried, wipe off any excess oil with a clean cloth. This will help prevent the surface from becoming sticky.

5. Repeat if necessary: If you want a more intense color or a protective finish, you can repeat the steps and apply another coat of oil to the furniture.

6. To keep the furniture in good condition, make sure to wipe the surface regularly with a soft cloth to remove dust and dirt. If the surface starts to look dull, you can apply a new coat of oil.
